Microsoft has just release mandatory Day One patch for Xbox One. The update is now available for pre-download and Microsoft also released a step by step guide on how to update Xbox One with Day One patch via PC and USB.
Updating an Xbox One using a USB stick allows Xbox users to avoid possible network connection during the day one rush. Since the Xbox requires a mandatory out of the box update, pre-downloading an update helps guarantee you'll be able to play games with your Xbox One as soon as possible

Step 1: You’ll first need to know which OS version you’re currently running in order to download the correct system update. To find your Xbox One console’s OS version:
- Press the Xbox button to return to Home.
- Press the Menu button and select Settings (or select Settings on the Home screen).
- Select System.
- Select Console info.
- Your OS version is the third row down.
Note: If you’re in the middle of a system update and need to find your OS version, pull both triggers and both bumpers on your controller. The OS version is listed as Build and is the second line down.
Step 2:
- Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
- Format the USB as NTFS (USB must have at least 2 GB of space).
- You’ll need to select the correct OS version to be able to install properly.

How To Download Game Patches Xbox One Games
- Click Save to save the console update .zip file to your computer.
- Unzip the file. If you’re using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
- Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your flash drive.
- Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
Step 3:
- Unplug the network cable if you’re using a wired network connection.
- Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.
- Plug the flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox One console.
- Press and hold the BIND and EJECT buttons, and then press Power On.
- Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.
- Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart.
Note If you don't hear two power-up tones after 10 seconds, it means this failed. Likewise, if you hear any “power-down” chirps, that also means this failed.
- You can release the BIND and EJECTbuttons after the second power-up tone.
- When the console restarts, remove the USB drive.
- Once the console restarts, the update is complete and you should be returned to your experience.
Note The console restart may take several minutes.
UPDATED:
In a strange turn of event, Microsoft has deleted instructions on how to update Xbox One without being online via USB. Furthermore, Xbox One Day One Patch files which players downloaded for maually updating Xbox One has also been taken down.
'The site was not an alternative way to take the Day One update and customers still need to connect to Xbox Live for the update,' a spokesperson said regarding this unexpected deletion.
